Today I heard something that made my heart break. I don't know why I was surprised by it - maybe I wasn't - but to think people even THINK this way - just makes me want to - well - sin.
I don't care what happens in our world. I don't care who does what, who hurts whom - it is never - ever - okay to resort to racist remarks. N.E.V.E.R.
Maybe I'm overly sensitive to this issue because my family has been a target so often. I know, some of you may think "oh brother, there she goes again - on her soapbox" - but you know what? I have to. It's just not okay. It's not Godly - it's not acceptable - and if I don't speak up - then who will? Silence is not the answer.
Just because people are from Iraq - does not make them terrorists. It does not mean they agree with anything Bin Laden did or anything he stood for. It is not okay to make remarks to people from Iraq - to "throw" it in their face that Bin Laden is dead. It is not okay to make assumptions about them based on their country of origin or their religion. Do you agree with everything that happens in your country? Do you think decisions made by those in power should reflect on you personally?
Anyway - I'd share more with you, but I was asked not to in order to protect the innocent. I just want to emphasize again. It's not okay to make racist remarks. It's not okay to "joke" about racism, to make assumptions about people, to draw conclusions based on some stupid thing you "think" you know about a certain race or culture. Even if you think the other person is okay with it because they don't respond or even laugh off your joke - doesn't mean that they are, in fact, okay with it. Maybe it's that they live in an all white community and realize standing up will make them stand apart and they just aren't strong enough for that. It's not okay people! It hurts - even when you think it doesn't. Just don't do it. Be kind and compassionate to all people - regardless of color, culture or religion. Last I checked - Jesus gave His life for all mankind.
And lets not forget. Jesus - was not white.
