Tap In

Today (and yesterday and last weekend, sigh!) we drove out to the Cleveland/Akron area for our son's soccer game.  We drove through some Amish country and I noticed a particular house.

Being an Amish home, it was not tapped into electricity.  It was, however, sitting directly under the power lines.  Jon was commenting in the back seat about difficult life must be for Amish people and Amish kids in particular.  He was saying how much work it was, how they must not be able to see very well even during the day because the house would be dark without light.

It got me thinking.  Here this house sits, so close to major power.  Yet, without being connected in, there is no way for them to access that power.

That thought led to another.  Since I started substitute teaching, my spiritual walk is out of whack.  I'm sooo tired when I get home that I have set aside the word and worship.  I'm mad at myself because I was doing good for a long, long time.

We have the ability to tap into the power line.  We have access to Jesus, to the Holy Spirit, to God - to the word, to worship - to friends and family who love our Lord as well. Yet, just like my Amish friends - we can sit directly under the power line and never realize what we have access to.  We can miss out on all that power has to offer us.  We can grow tired and weary from trying to do everything on our own.  We can have difficulty seeing in the dark because the light of Jesus is not shining on our path.

Power - is nothing - if not tapped into.

We must tap in.  We must get in the word.  We must worship. We must spend time in prayer.  If we don't, we'll sit in the dark, just like my Amish friends and our lives will become tiresome and dark.  We desperately need the power of Jesus in our lives.   Will you join me this week as I hook back up to the power line of Jesus?

Tami,
How wonderful that you were able to make the connection between the Amish house and our relationship with Christ. I probably would have driven by the Amish house without even noticing!
I recently attended a Women's retreat where I got to spend a lot of quiet, 1:1 time with God. It became very clear to me that what He wants for me right now is JOY, and that He's already given me the one thing I need in order to have joy... His Word!
I came home knowing that I can no longer complain about the little things that go wrong and use them as an excuse to not feel joy. If I'm in the Word daily the little things are much less troublesome, and I am more apt to remember that they are really for my benefit... to help me grow.
I have a new Devotional book, Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. I highly recommend it. Each day's reading is very brief, maybe 3 minutes worth, but it's enough to start your day out right. It is written as Jesus is speaking directly to you, the reader. There are 2-3 verses each day which you may look up.
I find this a great way to 'hook back up to the power line of Jesus' as you say. :)
Have a great week,
Jan
