Monster-in-Laws

Have you seen the previews for the new show Monster-in-Laws on A&E starting on October 24?  You better believe I'll be recording this one.  If for nothing else, to realize how good I have it!!

The previews are nuts.  I can NOT imagine either my parents or Marty's parents acting so psycho.  Can't imagine it.  My in-laws know me well enough to know that getting in my face and screaming at me would result in a very negative event ;)  Seriously though - that's crazy!  Do people really act like that or is it just for TV??

Anyway - just wondering if anyone else is looking forward to this show.  I think you should watch it because I truly don't believe most in-laws are all that bad.  I try to keep in mind that one day, I, too, will be an in-law and I prefer not to be one featured on this upcoming show :)

Praying for you Marzieh

If there were a way I could protest this - I would.  You can see the full article HERE.  Basically, Actress Marzieh Vafamehr of Iran has been arrested and sentenced to 90 lashes for:

"Vafamehr often appears with a shaved head and no headscarf in the film, which also explores cultural oppression in Iran and taboos such as drug use," the paper said."

There is so much I could say.  If not for the seriousness of the punishment - hearing "90 lashes" is almost laughable in American culture.  I can NOT imagine living in a country that gives people "90 lashes" for appearing in a movie.  In our culture, we celebrate people appearing in movies - its a good thing - not a bad thing.  (Well most movies - but your appearance in ANY movie would not result in "lashes")

It also breaks my heart because the very real issue here is this talented women is about to be beat, if she hasn't been already.  Beaten for questioning a culture that degrades and destroys women.  Beaten for trying to make the world aware.  I just don't understand it.  It's so wrong.

I know there is no chance this women would ever read my blog - but if there are others like her that are reading it - know I am praying for you.  Praying for your strength, praying for courage.  Praying for boldness.  Praying for change in your country.  Praying for a day the value of women will be celebrated in Iran.  Praying for the day you will see your worth in Jesus Christ.

There's really not much else to say.  I'm sorry Marzieh for what has happened.  I'm sure you knew ahead of time the possible consequences.  Good for you for standing anyway.  Keep up the good work.

Break my heart for what breaks yours

Saw this article today.  Don't worry - it's not like the last one I shared - but it is about child abuse.  Does it break your heart like it breaks our father's heart?  It should.  May we be a people who hear the cry of our children and respond.

Families Take Back Ground Zero

Here is a beautifully written article found on yahoo.com, written by Dan Wetzel, Yahoo staff.  Original found HERE.  The man has a gift for writing - he couldn't have said it any better.  I won't soon forget his poignant words.  It felt as if I was standing there watching the ceremony myself.  Read it for yourself - it's a masterpiece.

Families take back Ground Zero amid sunshine, shadows

NEW YORK -- Some arrived the night before, standing until dawn's early light. Others came in swarms at the end, up from the heavily secured subways to these sad, sacred acres.

Some were there to mourn what had been lost. Others came to represent what had been saved. Some came so they could remember what had happened 10 years ago. Others to find a bit more closure so maybe they could, at last, enjoy a measure of relief.

They came to the memorial service at Ground Zero here and heard a choir sing, two presidents speak, and six moments of silence pass.

Church bells rang throughout the city. The bagpipes of "Amazing Grace" whistled around corners. People even chanted "USA, USA."  They stayed and listened to the reading of 2,983 innocent names into the Manhattan morning, an act designed to both provide remembrance on an individual level and offer proof on a global one to all the despots that divide through denial.

"We've lived in sunshine and shadow," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. This day was to acknowledge both.

They came to look wide-eyed up at the surrounding canyons of steel and into the still gaping, reconstructed space where hell came to America like never before. One World Trade Center is being built, a museum is nearly done, yet it still feels empty.

They came by the thousands even if they could barely see or hear the ceremonies, even as the warnings of more terrorists seeking to kill more Americans dominated discussion.

They refused to be deterred or distracted or driven away.

Parents came to remember lost children. Children came to remember lost parents. Others came to remember the sacrifice of all those strangers, the workers in the towers, the first responders who tried to save them, the passengers and crew members on the plane, even the soldiers who wound up fighting wars that essentially began right here.

They stood and prayed and acknowledged the moment the first tower was hit, then the second, then the Pentagon in Virginia and the field in Pennsylvania, then the collapsing of one building, then the next. Each moment seemingly more haunting than the last.

From sea to shining sea, the song goes, and here was this sea of shining people, American people, all races and creeds, all colors and classes, all ages and allegiances. Some with family ties that date back centuries and some who didn't even land on these great shores until Sept. 11, 2001, had already played out.

"The world stopped that day," said Johnny Frisk, who flew from Sweden, his first visit to the States, just to attend the service. "I felt it was important to be here, to show we're a family."

Here were fire and police teams from everywhere: Cleveland, Long Beach, Germany. They just showed up, without fanfare, black bands over badges because they couldn't imagine not. "I couldn't be here 10 years ago to help," offered J.R. Easton, a firefighter from Surrey, British Columbia.

This certainly isn't how anyone who took over a plane that day designed it.

Here was the full spectrum of human emotions. Lines of the somber yet strong, patiently waiting through heavy security. Even soft laughter, at appropriate times.

Here were the families, arriving with little American flags and clutched pictures of their loved ones. Portraits, family poses, or just images of them in full form -- finishing marathons, beaming at weddings, one out on a fishing boat. They kept coming and coming, block after city block, from the shadows and into the morning sun.

Here was New York; here was America; here, indeed, was the world at its strongest, at its most unified, at its most respectful. Here was the best rising out of the worst, people showing strength by filling streets where ash once rained down.

Here was a chance to steal back something from this place, to make sure that for one morning at least the spot where their loved ones died was alive with the spirits of how they had lived.

"Never forget," it said on so many shirts.

And no one forgot. The politicians spoke with eloquence but it was the people who took the place back.

Heartbreaking

Warning - this article is graphic, disgusting, horrifying, guaranteed to make you angry and feel like throwing up.  No, I'm not joking.  I debated posting it.  However, although a horribly difficult read - this is the reason we need tougher laws.  This is what happens when people selfishly give into their own lust and desires.  This is what happens when evil wins and satan smiles.  This is one of the many reasons the world desperately needs Jesus.  My heart grieves for a world so incredibly lost in sin.

James 1:14 - 15 states :  "but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.  Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death."

This scripture fits the article so well.  Oh how my heart hurts.

Here is the article - again - please know it is graphic and terrible.
Michigan Man accused

Thank you, Judge Joslyn

Here's the article I'm referring to:  Defense Lawyer:  Sex case victim, 14, will forget.

I'd like to slap this defense lawyer upside the head.  Really??  Forget??  Maybe the accused and convicted coach will forget - but - it's highly unlikely - no - impossible - that this 14 year old will ever forget.  I hope this defense lawyer never has to personally deal with someone he loves going through something like this.

Thank you Judge Patrick Joslyn of Caro for standing up for the rights of victims.  Good for you.  It's good to see justice carried out!

Justice

I was glad to see this article on Toledo 11 news about Warren Jeffs.  I thought the article did a nice job of sharing some information but yet not being too sensational about it thus protecting the girls involved a bit.  It's good to know the jury nailed this moron and I hope it scares the daylights out of any other wanna-be psychos.

Anywho - I do have to say this though.  Why is our justice system sooooo inconsistent on how it handles sexual abuse?  Some people get nailed, some people get a slap on the wrist.  Shoot, you can write a bad check and serve more jail time than someone who rapes a child.  (I know some of you might take offense to how I just worded that.  However, that's what it is and sometimes we need to face that harsh reality.  It should make us mad enough to act.)   It doesn't make sense.  I'm all for tougher laws and life sentences.  Actually, I think we should just add one thing to the life sentence - and that would be removal of certain body parts.

Okay, I did not just say that on this blog.  But, I did.  Some things just make me angry - and this would be one of them.

Way to go jury in Texas for standing up for those little girls.  They needed someone to speak for them - and you spoke loud and clear.  I applaud you.

CNN News Story

Here is a link to a story done by CNN about Amy, a young woman who wore one dress - I think it was for 6 months - to help raise awareness about sex trafficking in our area.  You will also see Jeff, the founder of The Daughter Project.  So proud to be part of this group of people :)  We sure are BLESSED!  God is so good.

FYI

Another heart wrenching story.  My heart breaks as I read this.  Remember - it doesn't just happen in Africa, in India or Cambodia - this stuff goes on right in our backyard too.  Don't ignore it or turn your heart (I meant to type head - but heart is fitting as well) because it's just too difficult to face.  Get involved, do something - but don't do nothing.

You go girl!!

Found this article on yahoo.  Just wanted to say - You Go Girls!!  I shall keep my American opinions to myself - but I wanted to say to this woman (as if she'll ever read my blog) that this woman supports her and will be praying for her.  Fight the good fight and hold your head high.  You are a precious child of God.  Keep fighting for your freedom and know that someone in America believes in you.

Good News

Although I know this article ends with words that are not necessarily what we want to hear, I still find reason to praise.

President Obama spent Easter morning in a bible believing church.

I don't know where the President is spiritually.  I don't agree with him on much of anything - but praise the Lord - he was in church today.  The Lord can work in anyones heart - and that includes our President.  How awesome would it be if today, President Obama saw his need for salvation?  What if today, on this resurrection Sunday, President Obama heard the still small voice of our Savior whispering in his ear?  What if?

With so much bad news about the President on the news every day - I thought I'd pull this out as something positive.  Yeah, it was probably about show - but who knows.  You and I, a lot of us, spent several Sunday mornings in church - for show.  We spent it there to make our parents happy, or because that's what a good person is "supposed" to do or for whatever reason we did - but along the way, seeds were planted.  The word never returns void.  Today, I pray and trust that President Obama heard the salvation message and if nothing else, is contemplating the meaning of it to him.

FYI

Stories like this - both break my heart and make me angry. Jesus be with your children today!  Protect them- wipe their tears - show them your love the way it was meant to be!  Equally grateful for justice - because a lot of kids don't get to see their perpetrator given consequences for their crimes.  It's happening everywhere people - someone YOU know has been or is being abused.  It's time to say enough - to speak up - to protect those who can not protect themselves.  May we all be willing to take a stand!

Another FYI

2 in less than 24 hours.  I'm not searching for these articles.  They pop up on the yahoo main page, on facebook status' and in local news I get via e-mail.  If I searched, there would be no end to the articles I would find.  I hope this helps us to understand how big this problem is and how many little hearts are broken from it.  Hopefully it bothers us - makes us uncomfortable enough - to do something about it.

Caught on Tape: Planned Parenthood Aids Pimp’s Underage Sex Ring

FYI

I've decided that every time I see an article or news story on sex trafficking, I'm going to link it here.  I don't think we realize how much it goes on - right here in our own backyard (USA).  I hope this helps to bring awareness to this terrible crime.  I will label them under the title "sex trafficking" and you will be able to locate the articles on the right hand side under that category.

In the News

Has anyone else seen this?  This is one of those things that makes your blood boil.  I would rather not share all the gory details on here so if you would like to read specifics - go to the link.  Basically it's about the abortion Dr. in PA who is being charged with murder.  I heard more details on Yes FM this morning than the article shared - and it made me sick.  Also on Yes FM were some quotes by some lady who heads an organization of Dr.'s who do abortions in "safe, legal, and humane" ways.

If you know me, you know this is yet another touchy subject for me.  I don't agree with abortion.  At the same time, I was once the 14 year old sexually abused child.  I almost can't say this next sentence - but it's necessary (Mom, don't read any farther - x this out right about now). I don't know that I have ever shared this with anyone before. I was the 14 year old girl at one point wondering if she was pregnant not because she had sex voluntarily or by choice  - being offered to be taken for an abortion by her father to hide his sin. I'm not one to point fingers in the instance of rape or molestation - I can't.  It almost happened to me.  By the grace of God, I was not pregnant but I remember it very clearly and more than once. At this point in my life, if something terrible were to happen and I was to become pregnant by rape - of course I would keep the child - but at 14 I felt differently.  I'm not saying it would have been the right choice - I'm saying you have to stand in anothers shoes before you can point fingers or flippantly say what you would or would not do in a similar situation.

Moving along.  A few comments on the article.

I don't get it.  What he did - absolutely terrible.  Unbelievable.  Horrific is not even the right word.  Yet - abortion - is abortion.  Murder.  Is.  Murder.  But NOW he's being charged with murder?  So it's not murder if he would have done it "properly" by sucking the life out of a child with a vacuum?  I'm serious.  What's the difference?  A child is a child.  Period.  Once that child is formed in it's mother's womb - it is a child - no matter what the age.  If you were to do nothing - that "group of cells" would form into a child. If it were not a child from the beginning - abortion would not be needed - because there would be nothing to remove or get rid of.  Right?? (**Update - I am NOT saying he shouldn't be charged with murder.  I'm saying why is this murder & every other "clean" abortion not considered murder?  Seems like the pot calling the kettle black if you ask me)

Just sayin'.  Like I said.  Please understand I was once a child myself in a horrific (again, not even the right word) situation.  More horrific than any of you know.  If you are a woman who has had an abortion - I'm sorry.  I'm sorry you were in a situation so horrible you felt no other way out.  I know the feeling.  God loves you and I believe your baby awaits you in heaven.  I can't imagine how you feel or what you deal with every day.  It may sound otherwise - but I am not sitting in judgement of you.  Please hear my heart. I don't wish this situation upon my worst enemy.  I'm only commenting on the Dr. and the way the justice system is handling it - not on you personally.  Please know I don't judge you, I don't think less of you and I DO understand what it is like to be so desperate you feel you have no other options.  Only by the grace of God am I not the woman who had an abortion.

Well that's the depressing news post of the day!  Goodness!  It makes me crazy.  I recently saw a thing on Facebook about a lady who formed a website for the sole purpose of deciding if her baby would live or die.  If the readers voted no then no abortion - if the readers voted yes - the baby was gone. Unfortunately the baby is no longer.  I don't know if that was a hoax or not - but it's sick either way.

Okay - time to go find something happier to focus on!
